I played poorly on my first FICS blitz game so moved over for some Tactics Training. Out of the nine problems I attempted, I solved eight of them, but only one of them in the time allotted. Timed chess problems give me as much trouble as blitz games, so I guess that is the reason we must practice them. If it were easy to win as a novice, there would be no reason to continue to improve into a Master. After 20 days without a day off and waking up so damned early every day, I’m going to call it a night and head off to bed. I’ll attempt more problems tomorrow. My name is Jason (SirJ on <a href="http://freechess.org/">FICS, Free Internet Chess Server</a>, and SirJ on <a href="http://chess.emrald.net/index.php">Chess Tactics Server</a>.) This blog is created to document my improvement in the game of chess since returning to FICS and starting to problem solve on the tactics server. My thanks to "generalkaia" for his help on FICS and for introducing me to Chess Tactics Server. My first attempt on chess tactics did not go as well as I had hoped, 50%. Solving the problems with the clock ticking is harder than just solving the problems. This will really help my Blitz games on FICS and hopefully help my overall play so that I can do better on standard and email games also. My oldest brother and I always have an email game going, and he is up on points right now, but I seem to be doing better against him over a real board. My rating on the chess tactics server is still changing quickly since I have only 20 problems attempted, but I'm curious to see how this rating will compare to my FICS rating. That's all for now.
